How to make AI voiceovers sound more natural
A natural voiceover starts with a script that sounds like something a person would say. Before trying another voice, check whether the sentences give the speaker room to breathe.
Write for a listener
Read the script aloud. Split sentences that combine an explanation, a qualification and a conclusion. Use familiar words and explicit subjects so the listener can follow without looking back. Keep one main idea per sentence; not every sentence needs to be short.
Instead of: ‘Upon completion of configuration, users may proceed with export.’ Try: ‘Once you’re happy with the settings, export your audio.’
Describe the situation, not just the emotion
Choose a voice whose sample fits the mood, then explain who is speaking to whom. A concrete situation gives more direction than a string of adjectives. Avoid asking for a calm, excited, formal and casual delivery all at once. Where custom delivery is supported, start with a simple instruction like this:
Explain this to one person in a relaxed, friendly way. Keep the pace conversational, pause briefly when the idea changes, and emphasize the important words without sounding like an advertisement.
Refine one thing at a time
Generate two or three sentences first. If the result feels rushed, simplify the script or ask for a slightly slower pace. If it feels flat, identify the words that carry the meaning. Change one setting and listen again. Commas and full stops help suggest phrasing, but do not guarantee a fixed pause length. Once the passage works, use the same voice and instructions for the rest of the script.
